One problem right now is that a significantly large number of new car buyers are convinced by propaganda that there is no problem and the price of gas can be blamed entirely on global terrism (Bush's pronunciation) and the false god called market forces. I am convinced that Chevy (GM) has no intention of producing the Volt. If they did, all they have to do is restart production of the EV1. I believe the so-called Detroit automakers are making plenty of money in China and are willing to allow their Detroit operations to die a slow death to destroy the United Auto Workers union. Right now, you can buy a TRUE hybrid - from Toyota or Honda - and you can get it converted to a plug-in which makes the up-front cost a lot higher. So, basically, the technology is there but a cadre of billionaire corporate fascists aren't willing to do it. They are getting their communist entitlements and blocking anything that might threaten that. A boycott works ONLY if you can get a significant number of people to go along with it.
